AIM, OBJECTIVES AND MISSION OF HOUSE OF DANIEL (HOD) INTERNATIONAL
MISSION:
House of Daniel International is a Humanitarian Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) noted for its healthcare empowerment initiatives aimed at providing medical and eye care services, education and empowerment to vulnerable and underserved populations, particularly in resource-constrained settings.
VISION:
Good health is envisioned as the foundation of empowerment; thus, no one should suffer due to limited resources and lack of access to quality medical care, thereby bringing healing and hope to the group of interest
OBJECTIVES:
- Improve Access to Healthcare: Addressing social determinants of health, limited access to healthcare services, and health disparities by conducting comprehensive free health screening, vision evaluation, and providing basic essential medical care and other supportive medical aids for the physically challenged as well as optical aids for the visually impaired.
- Massive Health Education: Educating and empowering communities on preventable health issues, promoting health awareness, healthy lifestyles and behaviours, and improving overall health outcomes hence reducing morbidity and mortality.
- Strengthening Healthcare System: Improving capacities to deliver quality care thus strengthening existing health care system.
- Promote Health Equity: Targeting vulnerable populations including women, children and marginalized communities for quality health services.
- Partnerships and Collaborations: Fostering partnerships with International agencies to leverage resources, expertise and funding for affordable and accessible health care.
STRATEGIES: Conduct comprehensive free health programmes to detect and manage health issues such as:
- Blood Pressure Checks: Identifying hypertension and providing immediate counselling. High blood pressure is a silent killer and one of the leading causes of death worldwide.
- Blood Sugar Tests: Screening for diabetes and pre-diabetes with appropriate referrals.
- Malaria and Typhoid Testing: Screening, identification and treatment provided for malaria and typhoid.
- Dental Checks: Identifying dental problems and referrals recommended.
- Vision Evaluation and Assessment: Screening and identification of different eye problems to promote early detection and treatment of various eye diseases and defects.
- Free Physiotherapy Sessions: Partnering with specialists to improve mobility and restore dignity.
- Advocacy Workshop: Education on the risk factors of healthy living such as high salt intake, excessive smoking and alcohol, sedentary lifestyles as well as lifestyle modifications like stress management, proper diet, hygiene and sanitation, demonstrations on clean water practices for disease prevention and ways to break stigma and share coping strategies for mental health.
- Dispensing Life-Saving Medications and medical aids:
– Free Prescription drugs for hypertension, diabetes, and various kinds of infection
– Pain relievers, Anti-malarial, Antibiotics, anti-inflammatory etc for combating preventable diseases.
– Vitamins and supplements for boosting immunity.
– Spectacles, glasses and optical aides for correcting various refractive errors and vision impairments
– Distributing mobility aids such as wheel chairs, crutches, walking sticks to support persons with disabilities for greater independence.
ACHIEVEMENT
House of Daniel International has made tremendous achievement in the past years since its inception and it is still driving the culture of excellent humanitarian service in its mission of giving out of accessible and affordable healthcare services to underserved and vulnerable population. A remarkable achievement was made in June 2024 when a transformative medical outreach program was organized in underserved communities in Nigeria. Over 1,000 community members received free medical and vision screenings with 30% referred for follow up care. Healing with hope was brought to the door steps of these recordable population.
